Garland Avenue听and South Drive听closures, blasting and night work planned for听Stevenson Center 6听construction听
Beginning this month, there will be multiple road closures and blasting operations as construction advances on the Stevenson Center 6, Central Utilities Initiative, Central Neighborhood Residential Colleges and Peabody Residential College projects.听

Garland Avenue听to close 
The eastern end of Garland Avenue will close from听Monday,听May 11,听through听Tuesday,听Sept.听15,听to install thermal utilities. During the closure, commuters will use a temporary two-way access road off 24th Avenue South to reach Stevenson Center Lane听(see map above).
听
The western end of Garland Avenue will close from听Monday,听June 22,听through听Monday,听Nov.听9,听for installation of thermal, storm, sanitary, electrical and telecommunications utilities.听Lot 18,听adjacent to听Olin Avenue,听will reopen June 22, allowing closure of Lot 16 south of the Studio Arts building so utility work can continue in that area听(see map above).听
Traffic control staff and signs听will be deployed during the closure.听Temporary pedestrian pathways will be highlighted and separated from construction areas by perimeter fencing to听maintain听safety and accessibility.听Buses听will be rerouted to Highland Avenue to access Stevenson Center Lane and the VUMC roundabout near Eskind.听
New听McTyeire听parking lot to be installed听
A new parking lot east of听McTyeire听is expected to open by Friday, May 15. After the lot opens, access to听Lot 31,听the Residence 7听lot听north of听McTyeire,听will close Wednesday, May 20,听so crews can听install utilities听in this area.听Pedestrians and drivers听parking west of听McTyeire听will听not听be able to use the pathway between Residence 7 and听McTyeire.听The goal is to move听affected parkers to one of the new lots at听McTyeire.听
In addition, the听contractor will听build a听delivery access road听near the Zerfoss Student Health Center听for the Division of Animal Care听and adjust their site fencing听on听Sunday,听June 14.听
Pedestrian access to听VUMC听will听stay听open and will be separated from the new delivery road with barrier systems.听听
Stevenson Center 6听
Blasting to start May 25听
Rock blasting at the SC6 site is scheduled to begin May 25, and is expected to last until mid-August. Blasting will happen between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday through Friday. Typical times will be 9 a.m., 11 a.m. or 1 p.m.听
Standard blasting signals will be used.听听
- Three air-horn blasts will sound five minutes before a shot, followed by three short blasts one minute before detonation.听
- A single prolonged blast will signal the all-clear after inspection.听
Traffic on Stevenson Center Lane will be stopped during each blast, but access to the Vanderbilt University Medical Center roundabout will remain open. Blasting activities will听comply with听Tennessee Blasting Standards,听which听regulate听vibration and noise levels. If听permitted听thresholds are exceeded, the contractor will听adjust.听
Tower crane erection听July 17鈥19听
The SC6 tower crane is scheduled to be听assembled听from Friday, July 17, through Sunday, July 19. The new听McTyeire-area parking lot will听still be听available Friday, though short closures may occur as an assist crane is positioned. Access through the听VUMC听鈥済othic door鈥澨齱ill be听maintained听with traffic control, but pedestrians may experience brief delays.听
The parking lot and gothic door access will be fully closed July 18鈥19 while crane components are delivered and assembled.听
Peabody Residential College听
Peabody roundabout to close May to August听

Starting听Sunday, May 10,听the roundabout and connected sidewalks听between Memorial, Stambaugh, East and Crawford听houses will close until August 2026.听听
The egress from these buildings to the roundabout and nearby sidewalks will be closed for the duration of the听project;听pedestrians should follow the signs in and around the buildings.听听听
Sidewalk in front of Wyatt Center to closeThe entrance,听stairs听and sidewalk of the Wyatt Center along the Peabody Esplanade will be closed from听Monday,听May 11,听to听Friday,听July 31,听to install storm drains and new hardscape.听听
South Drive behind the Wyatt Center to close听

South Drive along the back of the Wyatt Center will be closed听to听traffic from听Monday,听May听11,听to听Friday,听July 31,听to install storm drains, sanitary lines and to widen the roadway. The听remainder听of South Drive is now a dismount听zone;听pedestrians should听dismount听bikes and scooters in the area. Signs are posted to distinguish the dismount zone.听
